Importing a CSV

What requirements does my CSV need to meet?

To upload a CSV in the ONE PM application your file must fulfil following conditions:

  • Separation character has to be comma (,) or semi-colon (;).
  • Decimal numbers must use dot (.) as separator.
  • Date format is ‘yyyy-mm-dd’.

How does the ONE PM application know if I use comma (,) or semi-colon (;)?

The ONE PM application assumes you are using the separation character you have selected in your profile under ‘CSV separator’. Make sure your computer uses the same separation character you have selected in you profile. Below you can learn how to change the separator your computer uses. Click here to find out how to change your profile settings.

How do I change my variable separation?

Depending on your settings, Excel will export your CSV with a different seperator. Here are the rules Excel uses to determine how it saves CSV files:

  • If your language / region / locale uses comma (,) for decimal separation (i.e., π (pi) is displayed as 3,1416), then Excel will save using semi-colons (;).
  • If it uses a dot (.), then it will delimit with commas (,).

Your decimal separation and variable separation must be changed in the regional settings of your computer. Depending on your operating system this must be done in a different way.

For Windows 10, please follow these instructions:

  1. In Microsoft Windows 10, right-click the Start button, and then click Settings.
  2. Click ‘Time & Language’ and then click ‘Region’ in the left panel.
  3. In the main panel, under ‘Related settings’, click ‘Additional date, time, and regional settings’.
  4. Under Region, click ‘Change date, time, or number formats’.
  5. In the Region dialog, on the Format tab, click Additional settings.
  6. In the Customize Format dialog, on the Numbers tab, choose dot (.) as ‘Decimal symbol’ and comma (,) or semi-colon (;) as ‘List separator’.
  7. Click OK twice.

For Mac OS, please follow these instructions:

  1. Click on the Apple button.
  2. Select System Preferences.
  3. Select Language and Region.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Change the Decimal separator from a comma (,) to a full stop (.)
  6. Then click on Ok/Save

Please note: After you change the list separator character for your computer, all programs use the new character as a list separator. You can change the character back to the default character by following the same procedure.
